GED
AGE: 18 years of age. A 17 year old is eligible with parental or guardian consent/School Withdrawal (TEA Form).
FEES: Initial fee is $80.00. Retesting fee is $20.00 for each part. Payment by cash, check, money order or credit card is acceptable.
IDENTIFICATION: A valid Texas Driver's License or Texas Identification Card is required and a social security card.
REGISTRATION: You may call the University Testing Center to schedule an appointment by telephone by calling (713) 313-7386.
TESTING SCHEDULE: Testing is available Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday every week by appointment only. GED examinees are requested to report to the University Testing Center at 8:30 A.M. and each session will end by 12:30 Noon. Monday: Mathematics, Part I & II (Video). Tuesday: Science, Social Studies and Literature Arts: Reading. Wednesday: Literature Arts: Writing.
TEST DESCRIPTION: The GED Test consists of five separately timed tests which cover five main areas of high school study. These tests are:
LITERATURE ARTS: WRITING- This test contains questions about spelling, capitalization and punctuation, logic and organization, usage and sentence structure. Time limit is two (2) hours, which is divided into two parts: One (1) hour and fifteen (15) minutes for objective and forty-five (45) minutes for essay.
SOCIAL STUDIES - This test contains questions based on maps, graphs, charts, cartoons, and short reading passages all related to social studies, Time limit is one (1) hour and ten (10) minutes.
SCIENCE - This test contains questions based on general concepts in science. Subject matter is drawn from the life sciences (biology) and the physical sciences (earth science, physics, and chemistry). Time limit is one (1) hour and twenty minutes.
LITERATURE ARTS: READING- This test contains various kinds of reading materials. Most questions follow a selection which may be from a literary work, a newspaper, a magazine, a recipe, etc. Time limit is one (1) hour and five (5) minutes.
MATHEMATICS - This test contains question about general math, geometry, and elementary algebra. Time limit is one (1) hour and thirty (30) minutes, which is divided into two parts: Forty-five (45) minutes for PART I multiple-choice with calculator and forty-five (45) minutes PART II without calculator. Calculator provided.
TEST SCORES: A total score of 2250 with each part having a score no less than 410 is required for passing the test.
RE-TESTING: We recommend that you prepare for the tests by studying at an adult education program or with a certified teacher. When you are prepared, your teacher will give you a retest letter to take to the GED testing Center. Unless you have a retest letter, you must wait six months before retesting.

TEST RESULTS: Test results will be mailed to the examinee directly from the Texas Education Agency located in Austin, Texas within three weeks, To check the status of your scores you may call: (512) 463-9292. EXPRESS TEST RESULTS: Five day score notification by telephone. Express fee is $10.00.Payment by cash, check, money order payable to the Texas Southern University is acceptable.
