Honors Program
I. PERFORMANCE REPORT
March 1, 2000 - February 28, 2001
II. PROJECT SUMMARY
The Honors Program is designed to broaden the knowledge base of undergraduate students through an in-depth study of oral and written discourse, philosophy and logic, literature and aesthetics, the natural sciences, and classical rhetoric.
The program is designed for the superior student to develop his or her full potential in both liberal and specialized study. The Honors Program offers a plan leading to a Bachelor's degree with honors. The Program combines mentor concepts and individual instructional strategies in small interactive classes. The purpose is to build a community of exceptionally able students within the University by providing encouragement and stimulation for their academic development.
The program had several objectives during the reporting period:
Enhancing the quality of course work
Developing and updating profiles of Honors Program Graduates
Developing a Mentoring Program
Developing a Community Services Component
Internship Programs
III. PROJECT STATUS
Objective 1
Enhance the quality of each course and provide a valuable honor experience.
Accomplishments
The Honors English classes have all been revised for the reporting period. The Honors Lab for Biology 131 and 132 has been strengthened. The Honors Program added funds for supplies and equipment to bring the Lab up to standards.
Objective 2
Develop an updated profile of students who have successfully completed the Honors Curricular.
Accomplishments
The profile of students in the Honors Program continues to be updated.
Objective 3
Develop a Mentoring Program

A description for the Mentoring class is attached.
Objective 4
Develop a community service component
Accomplishments
Students in the Honors Program are required to do community service as a part of the contract. All of the students have not satisfied this component but are expected to do so before the scholarship is received. We have on file a list of the projects that students have been involved in. Most students have satisfied this component by performing various tasks at the university. First year students serve as ushers for Fall Convocation, Charter Day, Honors Day and Graduation. Others have been involved in projects throughout the community.
Objective 5
Students are encouraged to participate in an internship in their Junior or Senior Year
Accomplishments
The Honors Program holds an Annual and Professional School Career Festival. The following college and companies participated in the internship program. Eligible students were involved in internship programs in the summer of 2000 and students have applied for internship for 2001.

IV. BUDGET INFORMATION
Seventy-five percent (75%) of the budget has been encumbered to date, and all funds will be exhausted at the end of the budget period.
