Faculty Development
I. PERFORMANCE REPORT
March 1, 2000 - February 28, 2001
II. PROJECT SUMMARY
The Faculty Development component of the Title III program is designed to improve student performance by enhancing the opportunities that faculty members have to engage in developmental activities. The goal is to integrate twenty-first century technology into the teaching and learning process. Additionally, the Faculty Development initiative serves as the primary conduit for increasing the involvement of faculty in professional activities and providing the data necessary to assess the effectiveness of the program.
To fulfill the goal of incorporating twenty-first century technology into faculty development activities, on-line interactive information strategies have been implemented.
III. PROJECT STATUS
Objective 1
To increase the participation of faculty members in innovative teaching by 50%.
Accomplishments
This objective continues; it is anticipated that this objective will exceed 50% by the end of the funding period. This is based upon the number of faculty who have incorporated technology into teaching strategies according to data from the Office of Institutional Research .
Objective 2
To implement programs and projects to foster interdisciplinary approaches to learning
Accomplishments
Recent program developments have seen the collaboration among faculty members across disciplines, departments, colleges and schools. These efforts serve to enhance interdisciplinary learning and teaching. Specific activities include a joint educational program developed among faculty from pharmacy, science and technology, and humanities. Proposed activities were designed to and in preparing middle school students for college success.
Objective 3
To develop research and training programs that support and encourage collaborative outreach
Accomplishments
Programs were developed and proposals were submitted that reflected partnership agreements and collaborations. These programs include tobacco prevention, teacher training and transportation research. Specifically, ninety-one proposals were submitted. Two training workshops were conducted that included representatives from agency and community organizations.
Objective 4
To increase research and training through technologically advanced delivery systems
Accomplishments
New desktop computers were added to the faculty development laboratory. Wireless capabilities have been developed to aid in distant communication and information transmittal.
Objective 5
To enhance faculty development through peer review opportunities
Accomplishments
This objective has been achieved by the increased number of faculty members who submitted articles for publication. One textbook was edited and is currently being reviewed for publication.
Objective 6
To develop formative and summative evaluation strategies to measure program effectiveness
Accomplishments
An evaluation instrument to measure the overall effectiveness of faculty development initiatives was disseminated. Additionally, survey results from Institutional Research were reviewed and compared.
IV. BUDGET INFORMATION
Seventy-five percent (75%) of the budget has been encumbered to date, and all funds will be exhausted at the end of the budget period.
