Mentoring is dedicated to providing new students with a supportive environment and interactive experience that will assist in developing the skills necessary to achieve their educational and professional goals.
Mentoring is currently designed to connect Juniors and Seniors with first time Freshmen via the internet for peer to peer academic/social guidance. The primary goal of Mentoring is the same as that of face-to-face mentoring: establishing a trusting and positive relationship between a mentor and a mentee.
Mentoring Goals
- To provide students with appropriate models (mentors) and extensive educational and social experiences
- To select mentors from the administrative, faculty, staff, student, and alumni ranks, who will provide mentees with consistent and reliable support and guidance
- To sponsor individual/group sessions and seminars/workshops for training mentors in strategies that aid and encourage them to persevere towards their goals
- To remove barriers that increase the likelihood of students not remaining in college through graduation
- To ensure that students are provided with an environment that maximizes their potential for academic success
