(GUALAC)
The Texas Southern University General University Academic and Learning Assistance Center exists in order to empower students to:
Gain a greater awareness of their cognitive styles through academic evaluations and diagnostic testing
Understand the value of cooperative learning using Peer Tutors and Supplemental Instruction Leaders as tools for their success
Adopt new approaches to learning through study skills and learning strategies programming
Look for and take advantage of opportunities to align their purpose with their choices
Affirm their quest for ‘excellence in achievement’
Close the “digital divide” by utilizing the available technological resources and computer-assisted instruction to enhance their computer literacy.
We are located in the Fairchild Building, Suite 161 on the historic Texas Southern University campus in Houston, Texas.
Students who have neither passed nor exempted out of all three parts of the institution's placement test(s) are classified
as "Test Responsible". Our center exists to meet the needs of such students as well as Freshmen, Transfer Students, students who are in the
Intensive Academic Supervision Program and those seeking a little extra assistance in their coursework and academic management.

As part of the Developmental
Sequence, GUAC 101 Lab classes are essential to the completion
of TSU placement test requirements. According to state law, Test
responsible students must enroll in GUAC 101 after they have completed,
or while they are completing, the required Developmental Education
courses. Until the test requirements are met, students must enroll
in GUAC 101 each semester. Failure to complete lab hours will result
in suspension of registration privileges.
