The General University Academic Center (GUAC) is primarily responsible for the academic advisement and enhancement of students defined as Freshman, Transfer, Undeclared Major, and/or Test Responsible. Placement test responsibility, determined by the General University Academic and Learning Assistance Center (GUALAC), continues until all attempted sections of the initial examination are passed. Advisors are dedicated to students and committed to the University. We are professionally trained and sensitive to the unique needs of Texas Southern University's student population. GUAC Advisors monitor student progress, facilitate freshman orientation courses, oversee pre-registration, and make referrals to campus resources as needed. GUAC Services include, but are not limited to, peer tutorial programming, career placement, test preparation workshops, GUALAC, the Community Service Project, and the Mentoring Program.
