Freshman Achievement-Based (General University Scholarship)
Scholarship Description
The Freshman Achievement-Based Scholarship (GUS) is offered to entering freshman students and has three levels on which to qualify. Achievement-Based Scholars at the $6,000 level are eligible if they have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50, 1500 SAT or 24 composite ACT. For the $5,000 level, a high school student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25, 1400 SAT or 23 composite ACT. For the $4,000 level, a high school student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00, 1200 SAT or 23 composite ACT.
- All scholarships will be awarded in compliance with established rules.
- All award letters will carry the disclaimer "the amount stipulated will be awarded using a combination of scholarships and grant-in-aid funds."
- Final distribution of scholarship awards will be through the Office of Financial Aid.
- Any combination of scholarships and grant-in-aid cannot exceed the cost of attendance.
- All grade point averages are based on a standard 4.0 scale.
General Guidelines:
The General University Scholarships are for high academic achievers and are not specific to any major field of study. These scholarships are renewable for up to four years based upon required academic performance.
- For general university scholarship purposes, SAT score is defined as the total of the best critical reading and math sub-scores from a single testing. ACT score is defined as the best composite score from a single testing.
- Any combination of financial aid and scholarships cannot exceed the cost of attendance.
- Recipients must be a citizen of the U.S. or a permanent resident.
- All Scholarships will be awarded in compliance with established scholarship criteria.
- All award letters will carry the disclaimer that "the amount stipulated will be awarded using a combination of scholarship funds and grant-in-aid funds".
- Final distribution of scholarship awards will be through the Office of Financial Aid.
- Any combination of scholarship and grant-in-aid cannot exceed the cost of attendance.
- All grade point averages are based on a standard 4.0 scale.
- Continuing students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater and be enrolled in 12 hours the semester they apply for the General University Scholarship.
- Recipients of the Thomas F. Freeman Honors College, Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation-National Science Foundation, and Jesse H. Jones School of Business Scholarship will not be eligible to receive the General University Scholarship.

Award Criteria:
- Available to U.S. and international undergraduate students only
- Awarded based on academics and community service
- Must have 2.5 GPA in high school
- Score of 16 on ACT or 800 on SAT
- Graduate within the Top 25% of high school class
To maintain the award at TSU:
- Required participation as University Student Ambassador at major university events (Fall Convocation, Charter Day, Honors Convocation, dignitary visits, etc.)
- Write annual letter to their individual donor
- Attend Annual Scholarship reception
- Maintain 2.5 GPA
