Houston Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (H-LSAMP) is an academic excellence program designed for outstanding high school students who are interested in pursuing degrees in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. This scholarship is funded by the National Science Foundation and awarded by the LSAMP scholarship office. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The only four majors supported are chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and physics.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Level 1: President's Award
High school valedictorian; high school grade point average of at least 3.7; graduation in the first quartile of a senior class; SAT score of 1,000 or better (math 500 or better and verbal 500 or better); ACT composite score of 21 or better (math 21 or better and verbal 21 or better); completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, which includes three years of science and mathematics (mathematics courses through pre-calculus but calculus preferred) with grades of “B” or better; and interest in majoring in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
Level 2: Provost's Award
High school salutatorian; high school grade point average of at least 3.5; graduation in the first quartile of a senior class; SAT score 950 or better (math 475 or better and verbal 475 or better); ACT composite score of 20 or better (math 20 or better and verbal 20 or better); completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, which includes three years of science and mathematics (mathematics courses through pre-calculus but calculus preferred) with grades of “B” or better; and interest in majoring in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
Level 3: Dean's Award
High school grade point average of at least 3.0; graduation in the first quartile of a senior class; SAT score of 900 or better (math 450 or better and verbal 450 or better); ACT composite score of 19 or better (math 19 or better and verbal 19 or better); completion of a rigorous high school curriculum, which includes three years of science and mathematics (mathematics courses through pre-calculus but calculus preferred) with grades of “B” or better; and interest in majoring in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
DESCRIPTION OF AWARDS
President's Award: 14,000 per year (Valedictorian)
Provost's Award: $ 13,000 per year (Salutatorian)
Dean's Award: 2,000 - $12,000 per year
